By Tami, Lousisana–THREADS WEST–Book OneIn this time of political uncertainty, and an ever growing national crisis
In this time of political uncertainty, and an ever growing national identity crisis, The Threads West: An American Saga speaks to the common bond amongst all Americans. It is a timely reminder of our heritage, and what I see as one man’s contribution to turning our great nation around, to instill in the citizenry the desire to reclaim the republic for the people, and re-kindle the Spirit in each of us. Kudos to you Mr. Rosenthal for a heroic effort to set aright the heinous crimes against a nation and its constitution.
Hat’s off to the author for his bold independent nature, his refreshingly honest reply and acknowledgment of the raw primal drive within us, and his daringly descriptive prose to the same! I say down with leveling one’s art to the common denominator of a publishing house. Never mind styling that perhaps affronts the King’s English form time to time.. art is art, and I dare say, as a student of the visual arts, one does not adjust one’s painting or sculpture to suit the styling of the gallery.
This author is bold, brash, and unabashedly in your face with those deep, dark urges most of us are culturally trained to pretend we do not have,,, so yes, reader beware… if you fear the tawdry underpinnings of your own sensuality, perhaps this read is too much for you! Threads West is not the tidy, well behaved mid-1800’s tale… it is about human nature, real emotional and psychological machinations amidst an incredible journey into a wilderness. It could be said, that unlike other historic westerns, this is the unedited version of America’s history.
Threads West gives us a peek not only into the experiences of those who were brave enough to venture into the frontier, but it allows us a glimpse inside our selves. Could we, would we dare be so bold to set forth onto the unknown, muster the courage and fight for what we want, stand by principle. Indeed, Mr. Rosenthal throws down the gauntlet of challenge to every American…. We built this country once, let’s do it again!
Threads West Reader Comments
Over the next week or so we will be sharing some reader comments on the books of the series–certain of those will be full reviews, others just snippets from both men and women, but all of them insightful. We love (and are proud of) the great national reviews, blogger reviews and thoughts from pros in the industry–but best of all are the comments from readers–enjoy!
Waited and waited for this book to be released and now I’m savoring every word of it! Three words immediately come to mind when reading this book – family, heritage and legacy. Each will play an integral part in what has become one of the best sagas I’ve ever read. I’ve come to know and love each of the characters in Reid’s books and anxiously look forward to what will happen to them next. They have become a part of me as they will become a part of every person who reads these books.
With Reid’s descriptive writing, you can not only imagine what is happening and picture it in your mind, but you are THERE with the characters, experiencing every emotion they experience, seeing what they see, feeling what they feel. To me, this is the mark of a true writer and Reid has definitely hit that mark!
My sister is also reading the third book. She comments, “I’m really into the book Uncompaghre now!! Can hardly put it down. Haven’t tried the pillow, but will. No, I don’t have a lap desk. Never felt the need of one:) That book is so good.” She’s referring to holding the book up at night while reading lying down. 🙂
Uh oh–sounds like we are going to have to get sis a tempurpedic pillow: Big grin that you and Dot are enjoying the page turning, Terri–thanks for all those very kind thoughts…and big surprises coming your way in Book 3–can’t wait to hear what ya think as you get down to the end! And don’t forget posting on amazon, bn and good reads! Enjoy!
Not any book let alone any series in the last twenty years has caught my attention and kept it! Wanting more can’t get enough of this series. With each new book Mr. Rosenthal is out doing himself I can feel myself in those words and places as he describes them, like Zebs trek to cherry creek from the mountains in book one. Thank you Mr. Rosenthal for reigniting my interest in reading.
Craig–thanks for making my night with that comment. You Ron, And Terri have definitely made this author smile with your comments here–and delighted the series is getting you back into the reading mode! Now don’t be bashful–post that review on amazon, under book one and two, and good reads or bn, too 🙂
Thanks for being a threads west fan!!
Sorry for repeating myself but book 3 was terrific and what a turn-pager, had 5 kids that have been big fans since I gave them your first book to read, they love all 3 books, couldn’t wait for me to finish it so we can reread and have some good discussions and all, even one of my students grandfather who is a native American and he tells some wonderful stories about his tribe and his beliefs and all, l’m learning a lot from him. I think about my grandparents who came from Italy, and all, and then my dad found my great-grandmother’s journal’s should say a binder of sorts,(his mom’s mom) and its filled with stories of her family where she came from a, small farm town in Michigan and how she was a widow at a young age and raised 7 kids alone, she was one tough lady! Anyways, back to the book it just reminded me of all the people that came from all walks of life and made a mark in this great land that we live in. Most of the kids that I tutor their parents all are from different parts of this world, and are making a mark in this world, and first time ever to graducate from middle school and high school! What a beautiful world we live in! I’m so glad that I can open someone’s eyes to reading!
You are doing great work with those kids, Carole–and you should be proud. And that they–particularly your Native American charge–are enjoying the Threads West series–the story of America set in the West, is terrific. It is one of the reasons I am so committed to this series–this story of us. The touchstone of the past is the guide post to the future–and the more buckaroos that learn of the courage, self reliance, blending of cultures–and yes, even the blemishes on the pages of our history, the better the future of this country will be. It is one of the reasons I speak pro bono to youth groups, schools and universities–a very important part of the mission of the books. I am delighted, of course, that you so thoroughly enjoyed Uncompahgre and books one and two. Keep doing what you do, it is critically important!
